Craft Process

Creating something beautiful with wool is a form of co-creating with nature. Spinning is a hypnotic and deeply relaxing process.

The wool I use comes from local sheep owners and from Kemp vzw Natuurbeheer. Including Kempens heideschapen from the Kesseslse Heide. These sheep are used to graze the heathland and help keep it open, healthy and diverse.

After the shearer shears the wool from the sheep, I sort it out by taking the dirt out of it. I rinse the wool by hand with rainwater, let it dry naturally in the sun, and then I card it and spin it. Afterwards, I either dye it with plants or give it another wash. Now it is ready to wrap, weave, knit or crochet.
